Elekid Girl at Virbank Complex

Rosa / Blaise as “Elekid Girl” with her Elekid “McFly” at Virbank Complex

Finished drawing May 6, 2023. You can now find this picture in my Fan Art section.

Chuggaaconroy started doing a Let’s Play of Pokemon Black Version 2 & White Version 2 last month. Since Pokemon has been one of my favorite game series for a long time (if you couldn’t tell by my Fan Art Gallery), and since he started using some people’s fanart at the end of his videos, I thought I would try to make a contribution to the fun. So, over the course of a couple hours a day for a week, I drew this.

I don’t know if I have drawn Rosa from the Pokemon series before, but I wanted to give it a shot. The setting is meant to be the Virbank Complex, an industrial plant in southwestern Unova where several Fire, Electric, and Poison Pokemon roam. This is also where Chugga caught “McFly”, the Elekid he uses in his playthrough.

In the episode he caught his Elekid, though, Chugga tried to spot every Pokemon available in the Virbank Complex so his Pokedex would record them. However, the Fire Pokemon Growlithe eluded him for a surprisingly long time. Only while editing did he realize the problem: his new teammate. He stuck his Elekid at the front of his party to train him, so he accidentally activated the overworld effect of Elekid’s Static ability: encountering Electric-type Pokemon more frequently than he normally would. Because of this, Chugga was running into way more wild Elekid and Magnemite than he should, lowering his chances of finding a Growlithe (who is NOT an Electric-type). (I also added a Mareep to this image. You cannot find Mareep in Virbank Complex, but it is another Electric Pokemon you could have encountered by this point in the game.)

Ultimately, I wanted to combine that silly incident with some aesthetics from the nearby Pokestar Studios (an in-game movie production venue) to create a poster with a much more dramatic appearance.

A Word, If You Would

How’s it going, folks? This is Joey Chipman, AKA “Ryu-Kage” or “RyuKageChroma”.

I have been drawing as far back as I can remember, and I started my journey into digital art back in 2008. I established this website in 2011 and have been using it as a hub to display my artwork. As of the time I’m writing this, though, I have neglected the site a bit, and my most recent pieces probably went up around the end of 2021 or the start of 2022.

It’s time I uploaded some new pieces, but I also want to do something else here. You see, I do have a Blogspot account, but I’ve been thinking it would be better to post updates on this website instead, so things can be more centralized. So…

WELCOME TO RYU-KAGE’S BLOG! (cue kazoos and fireworks)

I’ll start uploading some of my newer works onto this website, and then I’ll post here to talk about that particular picture, trying to discuss what thoughts went into each image. I may also use this space to discuss some of the pictures I already have on the site in greater detail. Who knows? Maybe I’ll even talk about my thoughts on some other topics unrelated to my pictures; I really like to discuss Pokemon, video games, and sometimes other animated things.

So, look out, World! I’m Ryu-Kage, and I will need to figure out how to end these posts.

A still image of a VTuber model I made. Oh, I’ll talk about this at some point, too.
